Unit of Inquiry

Today the Emerald Eagles started their first Unit of Inquiry: Connections to our Environment. They were shown one of the Essential Questions and shared their initial thoughts on how something is classified as living:

The students then made their own lists of the things that they thought all livings things do. You can see a couple of examples below:



Following this we went on a walk around the campus, looking for living things. These were shared back in the classroom.


Finally, the students returned to their lists from earlier in the lesson. Having seen lots of different living things many of the students changed their initial ideas (you can see these edits on the pictures above in coloured pencil).

We will continue this on Friday. The students will take part in an activity to learn the actual characteristics of living things and then compare these to their own ideas from today.
