Character day

(Some students declined the opportunity for a photo!)

Plus one more who changed into their costume a bit later!

2D shapes

This week we have been describing 2D shapes and finding lines of symmetry in them. Have a look at the pictures below from a lesson today:

Dance master class

Earlier today the Golden Knights were treated to a dance master class by Ms Rankin's Middle School students. You can see them in action in the videos below! ('Dance 1' has had the sound removed due to copyright issues...you will just have to imagine the music that could accompany it!)

Class trip to Gardenia Bread Factory

Last Friday we all went to Gardenia Factory to find out more about the process for making bread. Have a look at the slideshow below:

In class the students have been creating 'How To' texts or process charts to show what they learned.
We looked at this photo gallery on the Gardenia website and also watched this video about a bread factory in the UK.

How do you make sushi?

As part of our language unit on explanatory texts, the class have been learning how to make vegetarian sushi. We all went to Mrs Z's classroom and she gave Mr Vinter step by step instructions to make the sushi. The students then worked with a partner and took turns at the 2 different roles: giving instructions (using time connectives and imperative verbs) and making the sushi. When the sushi had been made we, of course, got to enjoy eating it! This afternoon the students will be writing up the recipe for the sushi roll they made. Please have a look at the slideshow below:

Where do the different foods we eat come from?

The students in the Golden Knights class have been finding out about where different food products are made. Using the food packaging that was sent in from home, they carefully read the labels and then located the country/region it was produced. Every item was then plotted on to a big world map:

Following on from this work, the class will be watching this video later today:

We will be considering how food waste and the carbon footprint of products relate to being a responsible consumer.

Writing a 'How to...' text

Today the students started to write a 'How to...' text, to teach others in the class how to draw a cartoon of their choice. To begin with they searched on the YouTube channel 'doodlekat1' to select a cartoon. An example can be seen below:

During this time the students practised following the instructions themselves:

They then began to write their own instructions, along with step by step drawings, ensuring that they used time connectives:

Once these are complete the students will swap their work around and try to draw a different cartoon by following someone else's instructions.
